Hear from industry experts and grads

John Harvey, Former Managing Director at AgriFutures Australia and Grains Research Development Centre

During his tenure as Managing Director at AgriFutures Australia, John led a shift toward a more commercially focused direction for the organisation. He positioned AgriFutures Australia as a change agent, transforming existing industries through new technologies while supporting the development of emerging, high-value industries to drive the continued growth of Australian agriculture.

Jenson McIntosh, Bachelor of Agricultural Business Management graduate, Charles Sturt University

Jenson’s interest in agricultural science started with a curiosity about where our food comes from and how we can improve the systems that produce it. Although he grew up in Sydney with no ties to farming, his interest in the sector deepened over time. Drawn to the blend of practical work, problem solving and critical thinking, Jenson moved to Wagga Wagga and pursued a degree in agricultural business management at Charles Sturt. Despite knowing no one in Wagga Wagga, it didn’t take him long to settle in. Jenson competed in the International Collegiate Meat Judging competition, worked as a student ambassador, gained harvest experience with GrainCorp, and graduated from university with a deep respect for how Australian agriculture works. After graduating, Jenson joined JBS Pork in Melbourne as their first operations graduate and now works across operations and supply chain.

Kaija Pedler, Ecologist, Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water

Kaija, a self-described “bush kid”, switched from studying forensics to a Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management at Charles Sturt. Now an ecologist with the threatened species team at the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, she collects data on species such as the southern bell frog, Sloane’s froglet, regent parrot, western pygmy possum and orchids. Kaija is eager to continue researching threatened species, embracing the ever-evolving field of ecology and its many opportunities.

Dr Dylan Male, Head of Food Systems and Project Coordination, Food Ladder Australia

Dr Dylan Male is a proud Charles Sturt University alumnus, completing his Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Honours) before going on to complete a PhD in crop agronomy.

Growing up on his family’s farm in rural New South Wales during the millennium drought, Dylan saw firsthand how climate challenges can reshape farming communities. Those early challenges shaped his interest in how agriculture can adapt to a changing climate.

Dylan’s research partnered with the Dja Dja Wurrung people of central Victoria to develop a culturally significant Indigenous food plant into a modern agricultural crop, blending science, culture and sustainability. Now based in Melbourne as Head of Food Systems at Food Ladder Australia, he works at the intersection of agriculture, technology and social impact, helping deliver climate‑resilient food systems to in‑need communities across Australia.

Anna Keenan, Communications Manager, GO.FARM Australia

Anna leads Brand, Investor Communications and Responsible Agriculture at GO.FARM. She’s responsible for strengthening GO.FARM’s presence across channels, building internal and external brand engagement, and ensuring the company’s strategy is clearly communicated to investors, partners and stakeholders. She also leads the communication and delivery of GO.FARM’s Responsible Agriculture framework, progressing sustainability initiatives and social impact programs that reflect the organisation’s commitment to natural capital, community impact and a safety-first culture. Anna helps ensure GO.FARM’s story reflects both its commercial objectives and its broader purpose to contribute to the long-term transformation of Australian agriculture.

Rebecca Groat, Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management graduate

Rebecca grew up on a farm in rural NSW and always having a passion for wildlife and sustainable agriculture loved the idea of contributing to the positive change our environment desperately needs.

Rebecca studied environmental science on campus at Charles Sturt University. During her degree, she had the opportunity to travel to Nepal to study international conservation, go on multiple desert field trips to survey endangered species, and connect with like-minded students through the
Enviro Club.

Following graduation Rebecca works with the Australian River Restoration Centre, collaborating with farmers, corporates, government agencies and First Nations groups to restore rivers and wetlands. This work directly improves water quality, increases carbon storage and creates habitat for wildlife to return to farmland.

Jonathon Medway, Head of Digital and Sustainable Agriculture Charles Sturt University's AgriPark

After 20 years in agricultural consulting, Jonathan returned to Charles Sturt University in 2019 to research the adoption of spatial and digital technologies in Australian agriculture. Jonathan is leading the Global Digital Farm Initiative, transforming Charles Sturt University’s farm into a commercial-scale showcase of AI, automation, and advanced digital technologies. He has worked on more than 2,500 projects across Australia and internationally, providing services to farms, industry, research organisations and government agencies.
